2024 BYD Song L DM-i in-depth Walkaround The BYD Song L DM-i is a mid-size SUV with dimensions of 4780/1898/1670 mm and a wheelbase of 2782 mm. The current Song Plus (Seal U in Europe) measures 4775/1890/1670 mm with a wheelbase of 2765 mm. This means the Song L DM-i is just 5 mm longer and 8 mm wider than the Song Plus, suggesting that the Song L DM-i could be seen as a replacement for the Song Plus due to their nearly identical sizes. The Song L DM-i features front and rear tracks of 1637 and 1641 mm, respectively, and has approach and departure angles of 18 and 22 degrees. It rides on 225/60 R18 or 235/50 R19 wheels and has a curb weight ranging from 1930 to 2000 kg. Inside, it has two rows of seats in a 2+3 layout. Under the hood, the Song L DM-i utilizes BYD’s fifth-generation PHEV system, featuring a 1.5-liter BYD472QC self-aspirated ICE producing 99 hp (74 kW) paired with a TZ210XYC permanent magnet electric motor delivering 215 hp (160 kW). The motor's rated power is 94 hp (70 kW). The vehicle is powered by an LFP battery pack made by FinDreams, a BYD subsidiary, and offers two battery options, although specific details are yet to be revealed. The BYD fifth-generation DM-i system boasts a thermal efficiency of 46.06%, fuel consumption of 2.9 L/100km, and a mixed range of 2,100 km. This advanced system has previously been implemented in the BYD Qin L and Seal 06 sedans and is now ready to be deployed in the Song L DM-i, which will go on sale in the second half of this year. The starting price is expected to be between 120,000 – 130,000 yuan (16,550 – 17,900 USD).
