Recently, it has been reported that the Great Wall Motors Tank 400 will come with a diesel engine version. Now, Chinese media reveals that the car spotted during testing is a gasoline version, with an expected price of around $35,000.
The Tank 400 is only available in the Hi4-T version, which is a PHEV. The vehicle spotted during testing is very similar to the current model, featuring extremely sharp lines and enhanced off-road capabilities. However, there are some differences, such as the absence of a charging port. It is unclear why the media believes this vehicle is a gasoline version rather than the soon-to-be-released diesel version.
It is expected that the dimensions of the vehicle will be 4985 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2850 mm. These dimensions are nearly identical to the diesel version, except for a 5 mm increase in height for the Hi4-T PHEV version. The empty weight is also expected to be 2455 kg.
The ground clearance for the Hi4-T version is 224 mm, with a wading depth of 800 mm. The diesel version has an approach angle of 33 or 31 degrees and a departure angle of 33 or 29 degrees, with the difference likely due to the drive system.
Chinese media speculates that the vehicle may feature a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, a 48-volt hybrid system, and a 9-speed automatic transmission developed by Great Wall. This engine package is offered in some combustion engine versions of the Tank 300.
The diesel version of the Tank 400 utilizes a 2.4-liter E24D turbocharged engine, producing a maximum power of 137 kW and is expected to come with a 9-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Hi4-T uses a 2.0-liter engine with a power output of 185 kW along with a 120 kW electric motor mounted at the front. The total system power is 300 kW, with a total torque of 750 Nm.
