On the evening of September 25th, the new 2025 Haval H9 model was officially launched in China with three models priced in the range of CNY 199,900 to CNY 229,900 (approx. AED 105,000-122,000), and is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia next year.

Exterior and Interior Design

As a fully redesigned model, the new Haval H9 receives complete innovations in both exterior and interior design, and the body size has also been extended. In terms of power configuration, it offers a 2.0T gasoline engine and a 2.4T diesel engine, and it will compete with models such as the Tank 300, Toyota Prado, and Nissan Patrol after its launch.

The new car adopts a modern “boxy” design style, showcasing a rugged and retro visual effect. The front grille consists of four robust chrome strips in the center, with rivet decorations at the ends, and the “HAVAL” letter logo embedded in the middle. The sides feature vintage-style square headlights, equipped with round LED daytime running lights, which look quite striking when illuminated. The robust bumper and bulging engine hood emphasize the vehicle's rugged off-road characteristics.

Body and Dimensions

On the side, the new H9 continues to adopt a body-on-frame design, presenting a classic “boxy” shape. The straight waistline runs through the vehicle, outlining a slender profile. Features like turret-style large wheel arches, large square exterior rearview mirrors, conventional door handles, 19-inch wheels, and an integrated roof rack enhance the athletic and off-road aura. The dimensions of the new vehicle are 5070/1976/1930mm, with a wheelbase of 2850mm.

Rear Design

The rear design retains the boxy shape, featuring an exterior spare tire and vertically arranged taillights, which consist of two rectangular parts that are highly recognizable when lit. The tailgate opens from the side and features a large square spare tire “backpack.” The license plate holder is positioned slightly to the left, and the rear bumper is thick and sturdy, which fits well with the boxy body shape.

Interior and Configuration

In the interior, the new vehicle adopts a brand-new layout design, equipped with a newly styled steering wheel and a 14.6-inch floating central control screen. The gear lever at the position of the secondary instrument panel is similar to that of the Tank 300 model, surrounded by physical buttons and knobs for ease of operation during off-roading and enhancing the overall feel. In terms of seating configuration, options for 5-seat and 7-seat versions are provided for consumers to choose from, and it comes with a panoramic sunroof, improving the comfort and convenience inside the car.

Power System

Regarding power, the new vehicle for the Chinese market currently only offers the 2.0T gasoline engine, which has a maximum power of 165 kW and a peak torque of 385 Nm, matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is expected that models with the 2.4T diesel engine will be launched later, having a maximum power of 137 kW and a peak torque of 480 Nm, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, demonstrating strong performance.

Market Performance of Haval H9

The Haval H9 is one of the earliest mid-to-large off-road vehicles under Great Wall Motors’ brand and the first seven-seater mid-to-large SUV of the Haval brand. Since its launch in November 2014, it has been priced from RMB 229,800 to RMB 272,800 (approximately AED 122,000-150,000). In June 2015, a five-seat version was launched at prices ranging from RMB 219,800 to RMB 262,800 (approximately AED 117,000-139,000). The vehicle has undergone several exterior adjustments but has not been upgraded, still enjoying a good reputation in the Chinese market.

Thanks to its competitive pricing and excellent off-road capabilities, the Haval H9 once stood out in the domestic brand SUV market. However, in recent years, the introduction of models like Tank 300 and Tank 500 from Great Wall Motors has threatened the market position of Haval H9. By 2023, the cumulative sales of the model reached only 5,792 units, with an average monthly sales of less than 500 units.

Competition Outlook

As a newly redesigned model, the second generation Haval H9 has significant improvements in both exterior and interior design and boasts excellent off-road performance. However, in the current fiercely competitive market environment, the homogenization of models is severe, and consumers have a wide range of choices, indicating that the second generation Haval H9 will face strong competitive pressure after its launch.
