BYD has launched its flagship electric sedan Han in the UAE, reflecting the ongoing interest of Chinese companies in the Middle Eastern market. Geopolitical tensions have made it difficult for Chinese companies to enter the U.S. market or expand into Europe.

The Han sedan was first introduced in China in 2020 and showcased at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. It is one of the most popular new energy vehicles in China. It is currently unclear when deliveries will begin in the UAE. Additionally, BYD has indicated that it will also offer the ATTO 3 model for sale in the UAE.

Middle Eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia, have multiple plans to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In June, the Chinese electric vehicle startup Nio announced it had received $738.5 million from a fund owned by the Abu Dhabi government. BYD has also opened a showroom in Dubai Festival City as part of its collaboration with Al-Futtaim.

In a press release last March, it was stated that Al-Futtaim would represent BYD in the UAE, with plans to launch four fully electric and hybrid models in the market by the end of the year.

The global electric vehicle market is expected to hit a significant milestone in 2024. BYD has rapidly grown in the domestic car market in China and has gradually expanded its passenger vehicle operations overseas.

BYD launched the Han sedan in China in 2020, available in both hybrid and fully electric versions supported by BYD's battery.
