In a bold move reflecting the ambitions of Chinese automakers in the luxury vehicle sector, Dongfeng officially unveiled its new Warrior M817, recently approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for 2025. This model is the latest from the Warrior sub-brand, specializing in luxury four-wheel-drive vehicles, designed to fiercely compete in the off-road segment with its high-tech capabilities and immense power.

Dongfeng unveils the 700-hp Warrior M817 with smart technologies, strengthening its presence in the luxury off-road vehicle market.

Massive Design and Exceptional Dimensions

The Warrior M817 features a massive and rugged body that exudes strength and durability, with dimensions surpassing most mid- and large-size SUVs currently available. It measures 5,100 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and height ranging from 1,899 mm (coil spring version) to 1,919 mm (air suspension version). The wheelbase exceeds three meters (3,005 mm), ensuring exceptional interior spaciousness and ample room for passengers and cargo.

The vehicle boasts approach and departure angles of 30 degrees, enhancing its ability to conquer tough terrains and steep slopes with ease, making it an ideal choice for adventure enthusiasts and off-road driving.

High-Performance Hybrid Powertrain Exceeding 700 HP

Under the hood, the Warrior M817 uses an advanced PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) system combining a high-efficiency internal combustion engine with powerful electric motors, delivering a combined output exceeding 700 horsepower. The main engine employs the "Plateau Power Star" technology certified by the Chinese Automotive Engineering Research Institute, ensuring optimal performance even in high-altitude or harsh climatic conditions.

The intelligent hybrid system offers multiple driving modes:

  • Full Electric Mode for emission-free city driving, enhancing environmental efficiency.

  • Extended Range Low-Speed Mode to optimize fuel consumption on long trips.

  • Hybrid Mode to maximize power during acceleration or off-road driving.

Advanced Suspension and Custom Features

The Warrior M817 is available with two suspension systems: a traditional coil spring setup and an advanced air suspension system that can adjust the vehicle’s height by up to 150 mm, complemented by Continuous Damping Control (CDC) for enhanced comfort and stability. The air suspension variant also features rear-wheel steering, granting exceptional maneuverability despite the vehicle’s large size.

Dongfeng also equipped the vehicle with a “Garage Mode” that lowers the chassis by 45 mm to facilitate entry into low-clearance parking spaces.

Comprehensive Factory Customization Platform

A key strength of the Warrior M817 is its extensive customization options offered through the “Warrior Off-Road Ecological Customisation Platform.” Customers can select from a range of original accessories such as roof covers, lighting systems, electric side steps, tow equipment, and trailer hitch kits, enabling the vehicle to tow trailers effortlessly.

Huawei Smart Driving Technologies

The Warrior M817 is among the first luxury off-road SUVs to integrate Huawei’s advanced “Qiankun ADS 4.0” smart driving system, providing cutting-edge autonomous driving capabilities, intelligent navigation, and active safety systems.

Off-Road Specific Equipment

The vehicle comes in two versions: one tailored for city use and another for off-road conditions. The off-road variant includes nitrogen shock absorbers, rugged wheels resistant to separation, and specialized All-Terrain (AT) tires, significantly enhancing its performance in the toughest environments.

Launch Details

Dongfeng is expected to reveal full details of the vehicle’s color options and interior designs during the 29th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show, starting May 31, 2025. The Warrior M817 is anticipated to attract significant attention from luxury and off-road vehicle enthusiasts due to its unique blend of power, technology, and luxury.
