Geely has announced the launch of a long range version of its compact electric SUV, the Galaxy E5, also known as the EX5. The update was revealed through official documents published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This new variant features a larger battery that delivers an impressive electric driving range of up to 610 kilometers based on the CLTC standard, making it well suited for long daily commutes and intercity travel without frequent recharging.
Refreshed Design with Original Dimensions Intact
The updated version of the Geely EX5 arrives with a modern exterior that continues the bold styling and dynamic elegance of its predecessor. The front fascia features slim LED headlights that give the vehicle a sharp, assertive look, while an optional closed grille with dot matrix detailing adds a futuristic, tech inspired flair. A tautly sculpted front bumper enhances the sporty character and road presence of the SUV.
At the rear, a full width light bar blends seamlessly with silver chrome accents and black Geely badging, delivering a sleek yet contemporary appearance. Despite the design upgrades, the vehicle maintains its original dimensions, measuring 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase stretching to 2,750 mm. This ensures a spacious interior well suited for family use.
The sides of the EX5 further elevate its upscale look with black trimmed windows that add a refined touch, while the panoramic sunroof creates a sense of openness and enhances cabin comfort. Buyers can choose between 18 or 19 inch wheels depending on the trim level, allowing for customization between a sportier or more practical aesthetic.
Enhanced Battery for Longer Range with Trusted Performance
While the front-mounted electric motor remains unchanged, continuing to deliver 160 kW of power, the most significant upgrade in this version lies in the new battery system. The EX5 is now equipped with a 68.39 kWh battery, giving it a driving range of up to 610 kilometers. This marks a clear improvement over previous versions that used smaller 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh batteries, which offered ranges of 440 km and 530 km, respectively.
Although Geely has not disclosed the specific test cycle used to determine this new range, reaching 610 km is a notable leap forward. It makes the vehicle more appealing for drivers seeking longer commutes without the hassle of frequent recharging, all while remaining within an affordable price bracket.
All new EX5 variants support both fast and slow charging options and come equipped with a 3.3 kW Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature. This allows the car to function as a mobile power source, capable of charging external equipment or powering small appliances, adding a practical dimension to everyday usability.
Competitive Pricing and Versatile Trims Put It Ahead of the Pack
The Geely EX5 is built on the brand’s dedicated GEA electric platform, engineered to deliver stable performance and modern tech within a compact SUV form. The model is offered in five distinct trims, with prices starting at 107,800 yuan (approximately 15,000 USD or 54,954 AED) and reaching up to 143,800 yuan (around 20,100 USD or 73,307 AED), positioning it as a genuinely economical option in its class.
When compared to key rivals in the compact electric SUV segment, the EX5 stands out. For instance, the BYD Yuan Plus, also marketed as the Atto 3, starts at 115,800 yuan (about 16,200 USD or 59,033 AED), while the GAC Aion Y is priced around 109,800 yuan (roughly 15,400 USD or 55,974 AED). This pricing advantage, combined with a maximum electric range of 610 kilometers, gives the EX5 a strong edge in the value for money equation.
With this upgraded version, Geely continues to expand its footprint in the EV market, targeting a broad range of GCC customers seeking a reliable electric SUV that delivers extended range, modern styling, and solid equipment without stretching the budget.
