South Korean automaker Hyundai has announced plans to unveil an updated version of its budget minivan, the Stargazer, in the Indonesian market during the second half of 2025. These updates are part of Hyundai’s strategy to refresh its lineup and attract more customers by enhancing exterior design and interior technologies while maintaining a balance between price and features.
Exterior Design Updates
The new Hyundai Stargazer features a completely redesigned front end, replacing traditional headlights with distinctive “H”-shaped LED lights, giving the vehicle a modern and attractive visual identity. The front grille has been enlarged and made more prominent, with metallic accents added to the front bumper that mimic Hyundai’s logo.
From the side, the design remains largely unchanged, retaining the original practical lines suited for families. At the rear, the taillights have been redesigned to be smaller and less aggressive, with the license plate moved from the tailgate to the bumper, which also received metallic touches to enhance its appeal.
Dimensions and Body
The design updates may slightly affect the vehicle’s exterior dimensions. The current Hyundai Stargazer measures 4,460 mm (175.6 inches) in length with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm (109.4 inches), and these are expected to remain unchanged. The updated model will likely include the Stargazer X version, which features increased ground clearance and crossover-inspired design elements.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Stargazer is expected to benefit from technological updates inspired by Hyundai’s newer models, including a larger, better-integrated digital display on the dashboard. The vehicle will continue to offer seating for six or seven passengers across three rows, making it suitable for large families.
Hyundai aims to improve passenger comfort by enhancing the suspension system. The company stated that the new model is designed to handle rough roads, sudden potholes, and steep inclines common in Indonesia, indicating possible suspension tuning for increased ride comfort.
Engine and Performance
The updated version is expected to retain the 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 113 horsepower (85 kW), with two transmission options: a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). No significant changes to the engine or performance have been announced, suggesting that the update focuses more on design and technology rather than mechanical changes.
Market Competition
The Hyundai Stargazer competes in the popular budget minivan segment in Asian markets, especially in Indonesia, where it is a practical choice for families seeking spacious and affordable vehicles. It faces competition from models like the Toyota Avanza and Ford Tourneo but stands out with its modern design and advanced features.
Expectations and Launch
The updated Hyundai Stargazer is expected to be officially unveiled at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show on July 24, 2025. The vehicle will likely feature interior technological upgrades that enhance driving experience and comfort while maintaining the competitive pricing that has made it a favorite in its segment.
Hyundai’s updates to the Stargazer reflect the company’s commitment to offering economical family vehicles that combine modern design, comfort, and advanced technologies, focusing on emerging markets requiring practical and affordable cars. By improving exterior design and passenger comfort, Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in the budget minivan segment and attract more customers.
