In the first quarter of 2024, the Saudi Public Transport Authority announced that the national railway system successfully transported over 8 million passengers, showcasing the significance of rail transport in promoting sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions.
Additionally, freight transport also excelled, moving over 7.9 million tons of goods, marking a 20% increase compared to Q1 2023. In passenger transport, the railways completed a total of 8,964,592 passenger journeys, an 18% increase year-on-year. Among these, intercity transport accounted for 2,891,779 trips, while urban transport saw 6,072,813 passengers. Furthermore, the Public Transport Authority emphasized that both passenger and freight rail transport not only provide safe transportation options but also significantly reduce carbon emissions, advancing the sustainability of transport.
