Xpeng has officially launched its first electric multi-purpose vehicle, the X9, in China. As part of the launch event, the starting price of this electric vehicle has been reduced by $4,000, now set at $50,800. Prior to the official launch, the X9 received 30,000 pre-orders since November 17.
The X9 is a large MPV measuring approximately 5.3 meters in length, with a design inspired by a spacecraft. It is built on the SEPA 2.0 platform, with dimensions of 5293/1988/1785 mm (length/width/height) and a wheelbase of 3160 mm. The vehicle features three rows of seating, accommodating a total of seven passengers, arranged in a 2+2+3 layout. Despite being a spacious family MPV, the aerodynamic design contributes to a low drag coefficient of 0.227 Cd.
The X9 offers two powertrain options, including a front-wheel-drive (FWD) version with 235 kW output. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) version includes an additional rear motor with 135 kW, providing a total power output of 370 kW and peak torque of 640 Nm. This compact MPV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h.
Battery options include an 84.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 101.5 kWh ternary lithium battery (NMC). The X9 supports 800V fast charging and is equipped with 3C battery cells, allowing for a range increase of 300 kilometers in just 10 minutes. Depending on the motor/battery combination, the X9 offers a total range of 610 km, 640 km, and 702 km according to the CLTC standard.
Sleek Interior Design
The X9 features electrically folding rear seats, providing a cargo space of 2554 liters. Inside, there is a 10.8-liter cooler and electric doors. The interior design closely resembles that of Tesla vehicles, with minimal physical buttons, cup holders, and a 17.3-inch central control screen. A digital LCD instrument panel is also available for the driver, alongside a large 21.4-inch display on the roof for rear passengers.
The vehicle is based on an autonomous driving system and the ADAS XNGP system. In July, Xpeng received a $700 million investment from Volkswagen, which acquired nearly 5% of Xpeng's shares.
