Chinese automaker Voyah has launched the pre-sale phase for its new Free+ crossover in the Chinese market. This large crossover is offered in two powertrain options: a fully electric version (BEV) and a hybrid range extender version (EREV) with a small internal combustion engine. The vehicle is distinguished by its integration with Huawei’s latest technologies, enhancing driving experience and comfort.
Exterior Design and Updates
The Voyah Free+ features a refreshed exterior design with a smoother front end, a closed front hood, and a simplified front bumper. It sports new 21-inch wheels, a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, and retractable door handles to reduce air resistance. The rear lighting unit stretches across the vehicle’s width with an interactive element between the front headlights, though some Chinese car enthusiasts find the new design less attractive compared to the previous model.
The vehicle measures 4915 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1660 mm in height, with a 2960 mm wheelbase, making it a spacious crossover competing against models like the Li Auto L6, Wey 05, and Denza N7.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Free+ boasts an advanced cabin with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen running Huawei’s Harmony OS 5, the same system used in other models like Aito and Luxeed. It also features a small LCD instrument cluster and a D-shaped steering wheel with a gear selector behind it.
A standout feature is the 29-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) from Huawei, providing rich information innovatively to the driver. Additional amenities include dual wireless phone charging, a voice assistant, and a 22-speaker Voyah Sound audio system.
The vehicle offers a 7-liter cooled and heated storage box, eight-point massage front seats, second-row seats that recline up to 27 degrees, tri-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof covering 1.78 square meters.
Driver Assistance System
The Free+ uses Huawei’s ADS 4 driver assistance system, supporting advanced features such as automatic parking, slope recognition, hill ascent and descent, and cornering assistance, enhancing safety and driving comfort.
Powertrain and Performance
The Free+ is available in two powertrain variants:
EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle): A 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 95 kW (127 hp) paired with a rear electric motor producing 215 kW (288 hp).
BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle): Available with two battery capacities of 78.8 kWh and 81.6 kWh, offering a driving range between 600 and 650 km under the CLTC standard.
A 4WD version adds a front electric motor producing 135 kW (181 hp), bringing total power to 350 kW (469 hp).
The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and features four-piston brakes, a full aluminum body, double-wishbone front suspension, and an adjustable air suspension that can raise the vehicle by up to 100 mm.
Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders for the Free+ have started at a competitive price of 229,900 yuan (approximately $32,020), significantly lower than the previous model’s starting price of 313,600 yuan. The vehicle received over 5,000 orders within the first hour of pre-sale, reflecting strong enthusiasm in the Chinese market for advanced electric and hybrid vehicles.
Market Competition
The Voyah Free+ competes with several electric and hybrid crossovers in China, including the Li Auto L6, Wey 05, Denza N7, Avatr 07, and Lynk & Co 08, offering a combination of large size, advanced technology, and dynamic capabilities.
