2023 GWM Tank 500 Hi4-T in-depth Walkaround
The Hi4-T is an off-road variant of the Hi4 plug-in hybrid technology, also featured in new Haval models shown at the show. The Hi4-T takes a "dual-motor" technique, allowing the vehicle to propel itself using the internal combustion engine, with the electric motor acting as a backup form of propulsion that may be engaged/disengaged depending on the scenario.
According to the firm, this safeguards the electric motor from overheating when subjected to prolonged difficult settings. A dedicated system-on-chip (SoC) governs how power is distributed to the road, with millisecond response times.
The Tank 500's powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a nine-speed Hydraulic Automatic Transmission (9HAT) and a four-wheel drive system. The electric motor is integrated into the gearbox, forming what the firm refers to as a P2 arrangement, with the battery powering it located at the back of the chassis.
According to the manufacturer, the battery can go up to 110 kilometres on a single charge and the entire system may produce up to 408 PS (402 horsepower or 300 kW) and 750 Nm of torque. The Tank 500 with the Hi4-T system can also produce 3.3 kW power accessories, which is handy for people who intend to use it for camping.
