2024 Chery Fulwin A8 in-depth Walkaround
Chery recently launched a new version of the Fulwin A8, named the Voyage Edition, and conducted two tests to demonstrate its effectiveness as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
Chery is significantly pushing into the new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The Fulwin sub-brand sells PHEV versions of Chery's internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. In addition to Fulwin, Chery has several other NEV brands, including iCar and a new brand called Yueji, which is set to launch in the third quarter with its first car, a hybrid compact SUV codenamed T1GC.
A key feature of the Fulwin A8 Voyage Edition is its larger battery pack, boasting 18.3 kWh compared to the 14.2 kWh found in other versions of the Fulwin A8. As a PHEV, it is equipped with Chery's Kunpeng super hybrid C-DM system, utilizing the fifth-generation Acteco 1.5TGDI hybrid engine. The vehicle's fuel tank has a capacity of 60 liters. The engine has a thermal efficiency of 44.5% and can deliver 115 kW of power and 220 Nm of torque.
During a test, the Fulwin A8 Voyage Edition drove on a high-speed oval track at 180 km/h for an hour without any issues. Fast Technology reported that the state of charge was 44% at the beginning of the test, and by the end, the battery had increased to 47% charge.
The Chery Fulwin A8 Voyage Edition, previously known as the Chery Fulwin A8 Pro, launched on March 30 with three versions priced between 109,900 yuan (15,200 USD) and 129,900 yuan (17,950 USD). Compared to the existing Fulwin A8, the main difference is the new enclosed grille, giving the car a more NEV-like appearance. The dimensions of the new car are 4780 mm in length, 1843 mm in width, and 1469 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790 mm.
