When I stopped at a red light and turned off the start-stop system, the RPM was at 1000. But as soon as I pressed the accelerator, it went back to 2000 RPM and wouldn't go down. Normally, the RPM is just above 1000. What could be the issue?

2018 model, two-door F56, there is a continuous and noticeable thumping sound from the right rear of the vehicle at idle. I've checked it myself, and when I unscrew the fuel cap, the sound stops immediately. Once I put it back on, it starts again after a while. If I cover the fuel cap with my hand, the sound stops right away, but once I remove my hand, it starts again. I suspect it has something to do with a component related to the fuel tank, perhaps the charcoal canister or the fuel tank vent? Anyone knowledgeable can help?
