Mike Simcoe, the design chief at Cadillac, remarked, "Sedans are not dead." Many automakers have drastically cut back on sedan production, even removing them entirely from their lineups. Simcoe's statement carries significant weight given his credentials; he designed the 2001 Holden Monaro, the 2015 Buick Avenir, and the 2015 Chevrolet Bolt, and he possesses a deep understanding of where Cadillac is headed next.

Cadillac's design chief Mike Simcoe stated that sedans are not dead, and while many automakers have reduced sedan production significantly, Cadillac will retain sedans in its future lineup.

He stated, "We will definitely have a sedan in our portfolio at some point in the future." Simcoe made these comments during a roundtable discussion in Australia, where Cadillac plans to return later this year. Although he did not specify whether the company's sedans would be electric, this is the expectation. Cadillac is exclusively selling its electric lineup, including the Lyriq, Optiq, and Escalade IQ, in Australia.

While these crossover SUVs may not be as appealing as a Holden Maloo, they play a crucial role in Cadillac's future in Australia. Simcoe remarked, "SUVs are a necessary evil." He added, "They have taken over the market and become practical, comfortable, and rational vehicles." To that end, Cadillac hopes these models will help secure a foothold in the country, after which it may consider working on an electric sedan.

It makes sense for Cadillac to move toward electric sedans. While Cadillac may not currently offer a similar vehicle, most of its competitors do have at least one sedan. Simcoe noted that affluent car owners often prefer to have a sedan in addition to their SUVs.
