In a strategic move that strengthens its position in integrating space technologies with smart mobility solutions, Geely Holding Group has announced a new milestone following the successful launch of 11 additional satellites by its subsidiary Geespace as part of the GEESATCOM constellation. The launch took place at 12:31 a.m. Beijing time on August 9, 2025, using a rocket deployed from a maritime platform near the city of Rizhao in China’s Shandong province.
With these new satellites joining the network, the total number of active satellites in Earth’s orbit has risen to 41, bringing Geely closer to completing the first phase of its plan to deploy 72 satellites by the end of 2025. The company aims to expand the figure to 64 operational satellites within the next two months, paving the way for near global Internet of Things coverage via low Earth orbit satellites, excluding the polar regions.
A Technical Milestone Boosting the Future of Satellite Communications
The launch of 11 new satellites marks a pivotal step toward building an integrated network that supports Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Internet of Things applications. All recently launched satellites have successfully reached their designated orbits and are operating at full efficiency, reflecting the precision of the engineering process and Geely’s confidence in its space based infrastructure.
The launch took place within the fourth orbital tier of the GEESATCOM project.
The initiative represents a significant leap in enabling continuous connectivity for vehicles, low altitude aircraft, and both maritime and land operations in remote areas.
Geespace is fully responsible for the project’s development and operations, serving as the commercial space arm of Geely Group.
Three successful launches were previously carried out in 2022 and 2024, establishing strong technical expertise that paves the way for the current expansion.
Multiple Capabilities and Applications of the LEO Network
With the completion of the first phase consisting of 72 satellites, the system will be able to cover all regions of the world except the polar areas, delivering fast and reliable connectivity. This network will unlock a wide range of applications that serve various key sectors:
Connected Vehicles: Providing continuous connectivity for vehicles even in remote areas, enhancing navigation systems, and developing intelligent on road services.
Urban Air Mobility: Linking low altitude aircraft to satellite networks to ensure smooth air traffic flow and improve safety levels.
Emergency Response: Offering secure communication channels during disasters or in cases of terrestrial network outages, ensuring uninterrupted coordination.
Maritime Operations: Supporting shipping and navigation safety while improving operational efficiency in international waters and remote regions.
Energy Infrastructure: Monitoring and managing energy systems in isolated locations with high accuracy and reliable performance.
Global Reach with Strong Partnerships
Geely has successfully built an extensive network of collaborations with telecommunications operators in more than 20 countries, covering key markets across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Commercial test results demonstrated the system’s efficiency, achieving a 99.15% success rate and network availability exceeding 99.97%, reinforcing the trust of customers and international partners in the quality and reliability of this network.
Smart Driving Support in Geely Vehicles
The new system adds significant value to Geely vehicles through:
Improving location accuracy by utilizing low Earth orbit satellite data, enhancing the reliability of navigation and location based services.
Enhancing driving safety by supporting advanced driver assistance systems with more precise lane tracking and hazard alerts.
Introducing satellite communication chips and high precision positioning units into commercial production and integrating them into Geely models, ensuring seamless hardware and software compatibility at the factory level.
This integration between space technology and vehicles reflects Geely’s vision of building an intelligent, connected mobility ecosystem that links Earth and space.
Practical Experience at a Global Event
The system proved its efficiency during Geely’s official partnership at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, delivering:
High precision location tracking for the official vehicle fleet.
Emergency communication channels to ensure uninterrupted operations during the event.
Enhanced fleet management and operations, showcasing the technology’s ability to support major international events.
A Future Vision for Smart Green Mobility
Geely continues to invest in the development of the GEESATCOM system as a core pillar of smart mobility infrastructure, innovating technologies, products, and services that surpass customer expectations. The company strengthens its position as a global leader in the green mobility revolution with solutions that connect space and earth, while committing to reducing emissions and achieving effective integration between sustainability and advanced technology.
