The world of high performance luxury cars is buzzing with anticipation as signs continue to build around a new Lexus project that may carry the name LFR. This upcoming supercar is viewed as the spiritual successor to the iconic LFA. Prototypes have already been spotted on public roads, and Lexus showcased a camouflaged version at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.

Early reports point to a twin turbo V8 paired with a hybrid system, delivering a combined output that could exceed 700 horsepower. A global debut is expected between 2026 and 2027. For car enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia, this could mark the exciting return of a Japanese marque to the supercar scene with a fresh blend of performance and advanced technology.

Clear Signs of Progress

The outlines of the LFR became clearer after its first public appearance at Goodwood, where Lexus presented the camouflaged prototype alongside the GT3 racing version, confirming the project had moved beyond speculation. Audio recordings from the event revealed the roar of a V8 engine, reinforcing the belief in a hybrid performance setup. The LFR name, which Lexus trademarked in 2022, further supports the expectation that this will be the production model.

The roots of the project trace back to the Electrified Sport Concept unveiled in late 2021, which promised a fully electric sports car with incredible acceleration and advanced solid state batteries in the future. Yet, for now, the more realistic step appears to be a high performance hybrid under the LFR badge.

Hybrid Power Inspired by Racing

Reports from global automotive media suggest that the upcoming Lexus LFR will feature a twin turbo V8 engine paired with a hybrid system, producing around 700 horsepower or more. This setup draws directly from Lexus and Toyota’s GT3 racing program, bringing track proven technology into a road going supercar. The result is expected to deliver:

  • Exceptional acceleration with an electric boost for sharper launches

  • A mechanical and acoustic presence that recalls the iconic LFA while adding a modern edge

  • Improved fuel efficiency and compliance with current emissions standards

Timeline and Anticipated Launch

Industry estimates indicate that the LFR could debut between late 2026 and early 2027, most likely as a 2027 model. This timeline allows Lexus to align the project with its next GT3 program, set to replace the RC F GT3. At the same time, Lexus is pushing forward with its electrification roadmap and expanded production capacity, highlighting its aim to balance raw performance with long term sustainability.

The increasing number of test mule sightings across Europe, including early interior shots, reinforces the idea that the project is steadily moving toward its production ready phase.

What Does This Mean for the Saudi Market

If the LFR makes its way to Saudi Arabia, it will likely arrive in very limited numbers with a price tag approaching half a million dollars before taxes. This positions it squarely for collectors and exclusive clients who have a passion for high performance sports cars. Unlike the legendary LFA that became iconic with its naturally aspirated V10, the LFR is expected to combine a hybrid system with a twin turbo V8, aligning more closely with modern emission standards while still delivering thrilling power and excitement.

This formula is set to create a driving experience unlike any Lexus model before, blending authentic Japanese performance DNA with the raw soundtrack of a high torque engine and the most advanced chassis technologies.

Additional Signals Strengthening the Case

The reappearance of the Sport Concept during Monterey Car Week added momentum to speculation that the production model is getting closer. International automotive media, which once suggested the project could simply succeed the LC, are now increasingly convinced that this is Lexus’s true next generation supercar.

Spy shots of camouflaged prototypes and official trademark filings for the name further reinforce one clear message: Lexus is preparing for a powerful comeback in the supercar arena.
