Lotus is actively preparing to unveil a brand new electric sports car, with an expected price of around $95,000. The car will be priced lower than existing Lotus models, such as the V6-powered Lotus Emira, which is the company's last internal combustion engine sports car.

Lotus is expected to launch its new electric sports car in 2025, currently referred to as Type 135, which will directly compete with Porsche's Cayman and Boxster models. Lotus will develop the Type 135 series alongside its Pine models, but both companies have decided to keep each project’s production separate.

The new model will rely on a lightweight electric production platform called LEVA, which will be used to produce various different models. In the case of Lotus, the battery will be installed directly behind the cabin, in the same area where the traditional engine was mounted in mid-engine cars.

Lotus is getting ready to introduce a new electric sports car priced around $95,000, aiming to be lower than its existing models.

This setup will provide the Lotus electric car with different driving modes while allowing passengers to sit closer to the ground, with a base battery capacity of 66 kilowatt-hours, increasing to 99 kilowatt-hours in higher variants.

The car will feature a single motor and rear-wheel drive system with a power output of 462 horsepower. Additionally, a dual-motor option may be available, providing a total power of 872 horsepower with an all-wheel-drive system.
