Chinese automaker Xpeng officially unveiled its new G7, a mid-size electric SUV featuring advanced technologies and competitive pricing starting from 235,800 yuan (approximately $32,400) in the Chinese market. The G7 marks a significant step in Xpeng’s strategy to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market by offering a smart and comfortable driving experience with cutting-edge features like an augmented reality heads-up display (AR-HUD) and in-house developed Turing AI chips.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
The Xpeng G7 adopts the second-generation "X Face" design language, characterized by an active front grille, integrated split headlights with ventilation openings, and a daytime running light strip stretching across the vehicle’s width. The SUV measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, making it larger than the previous G6 model. It features frameless doors with soft electronic closing and hidden door handles, available with 18- or 20-inch wheels and six attractive exterior colors such as Starry Gray, Lunar Silver, and Starry Green.
Powertrain, Batteries, and Range
The G7 offers two battery options: 68.5 kWh and 80.8 kWh, paired with a 218 kW rear electric motor. The larger battery combined with 18-inch wheels delivers a range of up to 702 kilometers according to the CLTC standard. With 20-inch wheels, the range is slightly reduced but remains competitive in its segment.
Smart Driving Technologies and Artificial Intelligence
The Ultra version of the G7 is equipped with three Turing AI chips, delivering processing power exceeding 2,200 TOPS, equivalent to nine Nvidia Orin-X chips. This enables advanced driver-assistance features such as Level 3 autonomous driving (XNGP) relying solely on cameras without LiDAR sensors. The system supports autonomous driving in urban and highway environments as well as advanced parking assistance.
Augmented Reality Heads-Up Display (AR-HUD)
A standout innovation in the G7 is the AR-HUD developed in partnership with Huawei, offering a display area of up to 87 inches. It provides augmented navigation guidance, complex intersection instructions, and dynamic lane change alerts. The system uses distortion correction and latency compensation technologies to deliver a smooth and accurate visual experience for the driver.
Interior Design and Luxury
The cabin features a minimalist, modern design without a traditional instrument cluster, instead offering a floating 15.6-inch central touchscreen for infotainment and vehicle data. Premium materials such as real wood, metal, and leather are used, with four interior color options. Napa leather seats include ventilation, heating, and massage functions, complemented by upscale amenities like front and rear wireless chargers, panoramic sunroof, 20-speaker surround sound system, 256-color ambient lighting, and a digital rearview mirror.
Comfort and Additional Features
The G7 includes foldable racks with magnetic fixation points in the second row, an 8-inch rear passenger control screen, and a glove compartment secured with an electronic password. The vehicle is equipped with adaptive suspension to enhance ride comfort across various road conditions.
Market Competition and Sales
The Xpeng G7 competes directly with models like the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X in China’s growing mid-size electric SUV segment. Tesla Model Y recorded sales of 24,770 units in May 2025, while Zeekr 7X sold 4,651 units in the same month.
Launch and Delivery Schedule
Xpeng plans to launch the G7 and begin deliveries in the third quarter of 2025. The company continues to show strong sales growth, with total deliveries reaching approximately 162,578 units in the first five months of 2025, a 293% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Xpeng G7 presents a sophisticated package combining modern design, excellent electric performance, and advanced smart technologies, making it a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV market. With its advanced autonomous driving system, unique AR-HUD, and luxurious comfort, the G7 is poised to compete effectively in a rapidly expanding segment both in China and globally.
