Li Auto is preparing to expand its presence in the electric vehicle market with the upcoming i6, an all new electric mid size SUV. Leaked spy photos have revealed the initial design cues of this highly anticipated model, which appears to borrow styling elements from its larger sibling, the i8. With a clear focus on spaciousness and aerodynamic efficiency, the i6 is expected to make its official debut in September, following the launch of the i8 in July, with deliveries beginning in October.
Smart Dimensions and Streamlined Design
The design of the Li Auto i6 reflects a thoughtful approach that prioritizes intelligent use of interior space while maintaining a sleek and refined exterior. The vehicle measures approximately 4.8 meters in length and features a 2.96 meter wheelbase, giving it a confident and balanced road presence. The short front overhang and gracefully sloped roofline contribute to excellent aerodynamic performance, achieving a drag coefficient of under 0.25, which is considered exceptional in this segment.
At the front, the i6 features a full width LED daytime running light strip, complemented by recessed main headlights that deliver a futuristic appearance inspired by the Li MEGA and i8 models. The rear design is equally modern, with a slanted rear window, sporty roof spoiler, and horizontal LED taillights that enhance the vehicle’s dynamic and athletic character.
Spacious Cabin and Next Level Charging Tech
The Li Auto i6 was designed with modern families in mind, offering a practical layout and impressive interior space. The cabin’s smart packaging allows the second row legroom to exceed one meter, while the rear cargo area easily accommodates large items such as foldable bikes or camping gear. Despite its sleek exterior, the raised roofline ensures generous headroom and a comfortable ride for all passengers.
Powering the i6 is a dual motor all wheel drive system delivering a combined output of around 400 kW, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5 seconds. The vehicle uses ternary lithium batteries supplied by CATL or Sunwoda, offering a driving range of 600 to 700 kilometers on the CLTC cycle. It supports an 800V high voltage platform and 5C ultra fast charging, capable of adding up to 500 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. The i6 also includes vehicle to load (V2L) functionality, allowing it to serve as a power source for external equipment.
Smart Driving Tech and Global Ambitions
The Li Auto i6 comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems as standard across all trims. Key features include a roof mounted Hesai lidar unit and the NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) system powered by Nvidia’s Thor-X processor. These technologies support both urban and highway driving, with future updates delivered over the air through Li Auto’s VLA AI platform, set to launch in July.
Priced from approximately 250,000 yuan (around 34,500 USD - 127,845 AED), the i6 directly challenges rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, and Xiaomi YU7. Li Auto aims to sell between 120,000 and 150,000 units annually, as part of an ambitious strategy to reach total sales of 1.2 to 1.5 million vehicles per year.
Backed by a substantial cash reserve of 112.8 billion yuan (about 57,6 billion AED), the company plans to build 4,000 ultra fast charging stations across China by the end of 2025. This network will cover 90 percent of the nation’s highways and 70 percent of major cities. The i6 is also expected to be one of the first models in Li Auto’s global expansion, marking a key step toward entering international markets.
