The 2025 Toyota 4Runner has officially launched, marking the debut of its sixth generation. This SUV has been a significant player in the American market, with annual sales exceeding 100,000 units, despite the previous generation being on the market for over 15 years. After a series of teaser images and videos, the latest model has finally been revealed.
The 2025 4Runner has undergone extensive updates in design, interior, and technology. It has transitioned away from the previous six-cylinder engine, now offering two new, more powerful, and fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines. Let’s delve into the details. 
Design
One of the first things that catches the eye about the 2025 Toyota 4Runner is its striking resemblance to the new Tacoma truck, both inside and out. This is unsurprising, considering that the 4Runner shares the same platform and engines with the Tacoma, effectively positioning it as the rugged SUV variant of the Tacoma. 
The 2025 4Runner boasts a bold exterior with distinct touches at the front depending on the trim level. Inside, it features three rows of seating, with a notable highlight being the electric rear window that can be lowered with the push of a button, a beloved feature carried over from the previous generation.
Increased Size and Spacious Interior
The new 4Runner has seen an increase in dimensions compared to its predecessor, providing a more spacious cabin. Its length has grown by 119 millimeters to 4950 mm, and its width has increased by 51 mm to 1976 mm, making it 28 mm longer than the Prado. The vehicle also offers excellent ground clearance of 233 mm.
New, More Powerful, and Efficient Engines
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner has eliminated the six-cylinder engine in favor of a new 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 278 horsepower and 429 Nm of torque, the same engine found in the new Tacoma. A high-performance hybrid variant of this engine is also available, generating 326 horsepower and 629 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive available depending on the trim.
Nine Different Trims Available!
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner will be available in nine different trims to cater to various preferences. The base model, SR5, comes with 17-inch wheels, LED exterior lights, a digital key for the doors, an 8-inch infotainment display, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Higher-end trims feature a 14-inch infotainment screen, a larger 12.3-inch instrument panel, and include amenities such as a 360-degree camera for monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings, premium leather upholstery, and a JBL sound system.
Toyota has also equipped the 2025 4Runner with its advanced Safety Sense 3.0 suite across all trims, which includes features such as pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more. The 2025 4Runner is set to launch in the United States in the fall of 2024, with pricing details to be announced later.
