Volvo has officially unveiled the ES90, its electric flagship sedan, in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 5. The model will be manufactured in China at Geely’s factory and exported globally.
Volvo ES90 is now available for pre-order in the European market. For example, in the UK, ES90 is expected to be delivered in early 2026. The Plus version has a guide price of £69,950 (approximately 90,374 USD), while the Ultra version is priced at £79,950 (approximately 103,347 USD).

The Volvo ES90 is a sleek, all-electric sedan measuring nearly 5 meters in length, serving as the electric successor to the S90. It is expected to feature a 102 kWh battery, delivering a range of over 690 km on a full charge. Competing directly with the BMW i5 and Tesla Model S, the ES90 is positioned as a strong contender in the luxury EV segment.

The ES90 remains unmistakably Volvo, featuring the brand’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights. However, the design has been modernized with a segmented LED strip and a closed-off front grille, enhancing its aerodynamics.
While it maintains the silhouette of a traditional three-box sedan, the ES90 stands out with higher ground clearance and a hatchback-style tailgate, reminiscent of the Polestar 2. Thanks to its sleek, minimalist design, it achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.25.

The central touchscreen comes equipped with Google services and Waze navigation, supports voice control, and is paired with a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system for an immersive audio experience. The ES90 also features an advanced occupant detection system, designed to prevent driver fatigue and ensure no children are left inside the vehicle.

Built on the SPA2 platform, the ES90 benefits from an 800V high-voltage architecture, allowing for ultra-fast charging. It will be available in both single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, with two battery options:

The ES90 supports bidirectional charging and 350 kW DC fast charging, enabling it to gain 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. For added comfort, it features an adaptive dual-chamber air suspension system that enhances ride quality.
Rivals and Market Positioning
In the luxury electric sedan market, the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE are its closest competitors.
However, in the broader EV landscape, the Tesla Model S and Nio ET7 present even stronger challenges.
Volvo’s Electric Future
With the launch of the ES90, Volvo now boasts three flagship electric models: EM90, ES90, and EX90. The company is also gearing up to introduce a mid-size electric SUV, the EX60, in the near future. While Volvo has postponed its goal of becoming fully electric by 2030, it remains committed to transitioning to full electrification when the time is right.
