With the launch of Geely's 2025 models in the Saudi market, interest has grown among car enthusiasts in comparing the Star Ray and City Ray. While both models appear similar at first glance, they cater to different needs. The Star Ray offers a premium driving experience with advanced features and a powerful engine, whereas the City Ray leans toward practicality and simplicity at a more competitive price. This presents buyers with two visually similar options that differ significantly in character and purpose.

Exterior Design That Reflects Each Model’s Identity

Both models adopt Geely’s modern design language, characterized by sleek lines and a bold front fascia that conveys a dynamic and contemporary feel. However, the Star Ray stands out with larger overall dimensions, measuring 4,670 mm in length compared to the City Ray’s 4,510 mm, along with increased width, height, and wheelbase. These differences translate into a roomier cabin and greater cargo space.

The Star Ray enhances its upscale look with sporty 20 inch alloy wheels and a standard panoramic sunroof, along with a unique illuminated logo that adds a striking visual element. Meanwhile, the City Ray comes with 18 inch wheels, and the panoramic sunroof is reserved for higher trims only. Although both vehicles feature LED headlights, the Star Ray’s attention to detail and elegant exterior cues give it a more refined and commanding presence on the road.

Spacious Interior and Features That Reflect Class Distinction

The cabin of the 2025 Geely Star Ray stands out with its elevated level of luxury. It features premium leather trimmed seats equipped with cooling and memory functions, providing exceptional comfort for the driver and passengers. The vehicle comes with a 13.2 inch infotainment screen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a 10.2 inch digital instrument cluster paired with a head up display (HUD) for an enhanced driving experience.

In contrast, the City Ray offers seats upholstered in a combination of fabric and synthetic leather. While it comes with a slightly larger 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, it lacks the head up display feature found in the Star Ray. On the audio front, the Star Ray leads with a Harman Kardon sound system featuring nine speakers that deliver clear, immersive sound, whereas the City Ray is equipped with an eight speaker Harman Infinity system.

The Star Ray also offers dual zone automatic climate control, providing separate temperature settings for front and rear passengers, along with wireless charging available across all trims. In the City Ray, wireless charging is limited to the GF trim. Ambient lighting in the Star Ray adds a refined touch to the cabin, enhancing the sense of comfort and luxury during night drives.

Balanced Performance and Smart Efficiency

The 2025 Geely Star Ray delivers an advanced driving experience, powered by a hybrid system that combines a 2.0 liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. This setup generates 218 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The hybrid powertrain also contributes to a quieter and smoother ride, enhanced by effective sound insulation and refined engine response.

On the other hand, the City Ray features a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine producing 172 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. Its lighter structure allows it to reach 100 km/h in just 8 seconds, making it well suited for daily city driving with quick and agile handling.

When it comes to fuel efficiency, the City Ray clearly has the edge, consuming just 6.3 liters per 100 km, compared to the Star Ray’s rate of 14.9 km per liter. This makes the City Ray a more economical choice for long term ownership. Both models are equipped with a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and front wheel drive, offering consistent performance across various driving conditions.

Safety and Driver Assistance Systems: Details That Make a Difference

Geely ensures that both the Star Ray and City Ray 2025 models are equipped with top tier safety features. Standard across both vehicles are six airbags, electronic stability control, an anti lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and traction control. Additionally, both SUVs come with hill start and descent assist systems, along with lane keeping features that enhance vehicle stability during driving.

However, when it comes to the finer details, the City Ray takes a slight lead by offering blind spot monitoring and both front and rear collision alerts. These features are missing in the Star Ray, which only includes front collision warning. The City Ray also stands out with high resolution 540 degree surround view cameras, compared to the 360 degree system available in the Star Ray. Neither vehicle, even in the top trims, includes automatic parking or driver fatigue monitoring.

Pricing: A Range That Fits Every Budget

The 2025 Geely City Ray starts at 92,635 SAR for the base model and goes up to 101,835 SAR for the top tier GF trim. On the other hand, the Geely Star Ray begins at 96,775 SAR for the GL trim and reaches 117,935 SAR for the fully equipped GF Plus version. This price difference reflects the added features, higher level of refinement, and enhanced performance offered by the Star Ray, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a well rounded, tech forward SUV.

Buying Decision: Which SUV Fits Your Lifestyle?

The 2025 Geely Star Ray stands out as a strong contender for drivers who value a sophisticated SUV packed with advanced technology, premium design, and powerful performance. Meanwhile, the Geely City Ray appeals to customers prioritizing practicality, fuel efficiency, and affordability, all without sacrificing modern design and essential features. The GF trim of the City Ray offers a balanced mix of value and equipment, while the GF Plus trim of the Star Ray delivers a near luxury experience tailored for discerning drivers.

How to Buy a Used Geely with Confidence in Saudi Arabia

For buyers seeking a more budget friendly way to own a Geely vehicle, the used car market presents a valuable opportunity worth considering. In Saudi Arabia, the platform “Mstaml” stands out as a trusted online destination offering a wide selection of Geely models in various conditions and price ranges. To ensure a secure purchase, it is highly recommended to carry out a thorough inspection at an authorized service center before finalizing any deal. Buyers should also review the car’s maintenance history and confirm it is free from major accidents or hidden defects to ensure peace of mind.

Geely: A Chinese Brand with Global Ambitions

Geely has quickly emerged as one of the fastest growing Chinese automotive brands on the international stage. Since starting car production in 1997, the company has expanded rapidly to become part of Geely Holding Group, which owns globally respected names like Volvo and Lynk & Co, along with strategic investments in major players such as Daimler.

In the Saudi market, Geely enjoys strong local representation through its official dealer, Al-Wallan, offering a diverse lineup of models backed by maintenance services and spare parts availability.
