Audi's flexible app-based car rental service known as Audi On Demand is coming to an end.

The automaker states on the service's website that the final date by which a car can be reserved is Sept. 30, 2024.

The service was launched in the U.S. in 2015 and later merged with the independent car rental service Silvercar, which Audi acquired in 2017.

It allows customers to select from various Audi models located at participating dealerships, and bookings can run from a single day up to a maximum of 28 days.

A search of the service reveals only Q5, Q7, and A5 Sportback models are currently available. As an example of pricing, quotes for the A5 Sportback include a daily rate of $95 and weekly rate of $665, excluding taxes and fees.

There are certain limits, like locations and allowable mileage. But Audi also offers a premium option that includes unlimited miles, as well as extras like a concierge service to drop off and pick up the cars.

Audi also ran a subscription program known as Audi Select, which provided access to a range of Audi models for a flat monthly fee. However, Audi Select only operated on a trial basis and the program was ended in 2021.

Audi isn't the only automaker killing off its car rental and subscription programs right now. Volvo in August ended its Care by Volvo subscription program. The program had been running in the U.S. since 2017.
