Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled its latest electric sedan, the Seal 06 EV, as part of its Ocean series. This new model offers a compelling combination of advanced technology and affordability. The car was revealed at the Chongqing Auto Show, where it drew attention with its modern design and advanced features, highlighting BYD's continued push to strengthen its presence in the mid range electric vehicle market.
Ideal Proportions and a Design That Blends Elegance with Presence
The Seal 06 EV features a well balanced sedan design with ideal proportions that allow it to perform smoothly across various driving environments. It measures 4720 mm in length, 1880 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2820 mm that ensures a spacious and comfortable cabin, making it well suited for families and passengers seeking a relaxed driving experience. Its streamlined silhouette gives the car a sporty stance while enhancing aerodynamic efficiency and adding a touch of refined elegance.
All variants come with rear wheel drive, though motor specifications vary across trims. The base model is powered by a 110 kW motor (approximately 147 hp) with 220 Nm of torque. The two higher trims upgrade to a 160 kW motor (about 214 hp) delivering up to 330 Nm of torque, enhancing driving excitement and responsiveness on the road.
Diverse Battery Options and Competitive Prices
The BYD Seal 06 EV is equipped with advanced Blade batteries made from lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and is available in three different variants, each offering distinct battery capacities, driving ranges, and prices.
The base model features a 46.08 kWh battery, delivering a driving range of up to 470 kilometers based on the CLTC cycle. This variant is priced at 109,800 yuan, which is approximately 15,270 USD (56,161 AED).
The second variant upgrades to a larger 56.64 kWh battery, extending the driving range to 545 kilometers. It is priced at 119,800 yuan, or about 16,650 USD (61,267 AED). The third variant offers the same battery and range but comes with a higher price tag of 129,800 yuan, which equals roughly 18,030 USD (66,381 AED).
All Seal 06 EV trims support fast charging technology with a peak power of 103 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. This makes it ideal for daily commutes and short to medium distance trips, reducing downtime and enhancing convenience.
Smart Technology and a Future Ready Driving Experience
The Seal 06 EV enhances the driving experience with BYD’s intelligent God's Eye C system, which uses a camera based vision solution through the DiPilot 100 platform, eliminating the need for LiDAR sensors. This setup delivers a range of semi autonomous driving features, including smart steering assistance and road monitoring, contributing to safer and more convenient driving in a variety of conditions.
The Seal 06 EV is part of BYD’s expanding Seal family, which includes both hybrid and fully electric models such as the Seal 05 DM-i, Seal 07 DM-i, Seal 06 GT, and the original all electric Seal. Prices for the Seal lineup range from 79,800 yuan (40,811 AED) to 239,800 yuan (about 122,637 AED), offering customers a broad selection of configurations to suit different needs.
The strength of the Seal lineup was reflected in BYD’s May sales performance, with a total of 382,476 vehicles sold, marking a year on year increase of 15.27 percent. Seal models alone accounted for 25,587 units, representing an impressive 78.79 percent year on year growth.
