LEPAS is moving closer to its UAE arrival, and the brand is not entering quietly. Backed by Chery Group and represented locally by Al Ghurair Mobility, the new premium new-energy brand is preparing to introduce a line-up of smart SUVs led by models such as the L8, L6 and L4.

The latest focus is the brand’s Super Hybrid technology, a system designed to combine electric-style smoothness with the flexibility of a petrol engine. For the UAE, where long-distance driving, summer heat and fuel efficiency all matter, this could give LEPAS a more practical story than a fully electric-only strategy.

A Hybrid Strategy Made for Real-World Driving

The UAE market is not easy for new-energy vehicles. Buyers want lower running costs, but they also want confidence on highways, family-road-trip practicality and strong air-conditioning performance in extreme weather. That is why plug-in hybrid and super hybrid systems are becoming more relevant.

LEPAS is trying to position its technology in that middle ground. It is not asking drivers to fully depend on charging infrastructure, but it still promises a more refined and efficient experience than a traditional petrol SUV.

According to recent technical details published by DubiCars, the LEPAS Super Hybrid system combines a 1.5TGDI engine with a 1DHT hybrid transmission. The report also lists engine thermal efficiency at 45.79% and transmission efficiency at 92%, figures that support the brand’s efficiency-focused positioning.

More Than Another Chinese SUV Brand

The timing is important. Chinese carmakers are no longer competing in the UAE only through price. Brands are now trying to win buyers through design, technology, warranty confidence, hybrid systems and stronger local representation.

LEPAS enters this environment with a different tone from Chery’s more familiar brands. Its positioning leans toward design, comfort and what the company describes as elegant mobility. The official LEPAS UAE page already invites customers to explore the L8, L6 and L4, describing the upcoming range as smart SUVs shaped around real roads and daily use.

That is a useful message for UAE buyers. The market is crowded with SUVs, but not every new entrant understands that premium feel is not only about screens and styling. It is also about quietness, drivetrain smoothness, aftersales trust and whether the car feels composed in daily life.

Why Al Ghurair Mobility Matters

The local partner also matters. Al Ghurair Mobility signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Chery Group to introduce LEPAS to the UAE, adding the brand to its growing relationship with Chery after earlier partnerships involving EXEED and RELY.

For a new brand, this is not just a business detail. UAE buyers are increasingly open to Chinese cars, but aftersales support remains a major deciding factor. A credible local distributor can help reduce the hesitation that often comes with a new nameplate.

If LEPAS wants to compete beyond early curiosity, it will need more than attractive pricing. It will need clear service coverage, parts availability, transparent warranty support and a showroom experience that matches its premium positioning.

A New Signal From China’s Hybrid Offensive

The bigger story is not only LEPAS. It is the speed at which Chinese automakers are moving into hybrid technology for global markets. While EVs dominate headlines, hybrids may be the more immediate bridge for regions like the GCC, where customers still value long range and flexible usage.

LEPAS Super Hybrid could therefore arrive at the right time. Fuel prices, daily commuting, family mobility and weekend travel all make efficiency more relevant, but many drivers are still not ready to move fully electric.

The Bottom Line

LEPAS is entering the UAE with a clear opportunity. If its Super Hybrid technology delivers the refinement, efficiency and practicality promised, the brand could find space in a market that is actively looking for smarter alternatives to traditional petrol SUVs.

The challenge will be execution. In the UAE, a new Chinese SUV brand cannot rely only on a strong launch campaign. It must prove itself on the road, in the service centre and in the ownership experience.

For now, LEPAS looks like one of the more interesting Chinese hybrid stories to watch in the UAE.
