Hyundai has launched a mid-cycle facelift for its affordable minivan models "Stargazer Cartenz" and "Cartenz X" in the Indonesian market, targeting families and professionals seeking practical, modern vehicles at reasonable prices. The original model, launched in 2022, had succeeded, but with increasing competition, Hyundai introduced a modified version that combines a more aggressive design and modern interior technologies to boost appeal and uniqueness.
Bold and Aggressive Exterior Design
The most significant visual change appears at the front, where the hood has been extended and separated to break the old single-box design, giving the vehicle a stronger presence on the road. The old dual-headlight design was replaced by a more traditional horizontal style that features prominent LED lights in the shape of sharp “fangs,” imparting an aggressive character.
The radiator grille has grown noticeably, especially on the "Cartenz X" variant, which also features wider front bumper openings, enhancing the vehicle’s stature and curb appeal. The side profile retains familiar lines with added distinctive touches on the "Cartenz X" crossover version, including plastic claddings around the wheel arches and longer roof rails.
At the rear, the bumper design was altered by integrating the license plate into the bumper itself instead of the tailgate as before, complemented by slimmer and newer LED taillights that provide a modern cohesive look.
Updated Interior and Sophisticated Technology Features
Inside, the cabin received comprehensive updates enhancing the integration between display and controls, with a new dashboard design that improves design flow and facilitates easy access to controls. The climate control system was simplified for easier and more effective use.
The "Cartenz X" version features a Shift-by-Wire system, replacing the traditional gear lever with an electronic shifter, freeing up space on the center console, thus enhancing comfort and modernity.
The minivans offer seating for seven passengers across three rows, with the option to convert the middle row into captain seats, reducing capacity to six but increasing comfort and space.
Color choices vary from classic black to premium beige in higher trims. Equipment includes power-adjustable driver seats with ventilation, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, a high-quality Bose sound system, smart cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and blind-spot monitoring with cameras.
Mechanical Specifications Remain Steady with Economical Engines
Despite the substantial design and interior updates, Hyundai retained the previous engine: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 113 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, paired solely with front-wheel drive.
Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT), allowing flexibility between performance and fuel efficiency.
The vehicle is built on an extended platform shared with the Kia Carens minivan and crossover variant Kia Carens Clavis, as well as Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, promoting efficient costs and production.
Market Availability and Regional Expansion Expectations
Though assembled in Indonesia, Hyundai confirmed that the updated models will be exported to multiple international markets including the Middle East, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, and Vietnam, adapted to local tastes and requirements.
In Indonesia, pricing starts at about $16,600 for the base Stargazer Cartenz, rising to $21,500 for the higher-trim Cartenz version. Meanwhile, the "Cartenz X" sells between $22,200 and $24,100, marking a slight increase over the previous non-facelifted models.
Hyundai aims to offer added value through design and technological features within the cabin while maintaining practicality for everyday family use, targeting market segments that require cost stability alongside improved user experience.
Fierce Competition in the Affordable Minivan Segment
The affordable minivan segment currently faces intense competition, as many local and regional manufacturers strive to meet customers’ demands for reliable, practical, economical family vehicles with contemporary touches.
With this latest update, Hyundai seeks to distinguish its minivans by applying a bolder and more attractive design and integrating smart tech features, positioning them as a smart choice amid increasing demand for comfortable and intelligent urban and long-distance mobility.
Hyundai’s updates to the Stargazer Cartenz and Cartenz X represent a critical step to keep these models competitive in the targeted markets by blending modern design and technology while maintaining mechanical efficiency and affordable pricing.
These updates are expected to strengthen Hyundai’s share in the affordable minivan market across Asia and beyond, making the brand a strong contender for families seeking practical vehicles that combine comfort, performance, and innovation at a reasonable price.
