Nio has launched updated versions of its ES6 and EC6 electric vehicles in the Chinese market, with deliveries beginning on May 20. Despite notable enhancements in performance, comfort, and safety, along with the integration of advanced, in house developed smart systems, the pricing remains unchanged. These upgrades underscore Nio's commitment to reinforcing its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment, particularly through advancements in autonomous driving and battery swap technologies.

Enhanced Tech at Unchanged Prices

The 2024 Nio ES6 retains its previous price of 338,000 CNY, approximately $46,910 (about 172,200 AED), including the standard-range battery. The EC6 coupe also remains unchanged at 358,000 CNY (around 182,390 AED), matching the outgoing model.

Nio offers an alternative via its Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle without a battery: 268,000 CNY (around 136,530 AED) for the ES6 and 288,000 CNY (about 146,720 AED) for the EC6. Customers can then rent the battery monthly at 728 CNY (around 370 AED) for a 75-kWh pack or 1,128 CNY (around 575 AED) for the 100-kWh long range option.

Orders for the upgraded ES6 and EC6 can be placed starting May 20. Customers who finalize their orders by June 30 will receive up to four free battery swaps per month for five years, along with free access to the NOP+ intelligent navigation system. Additionally, buyers will receive a complimentary AC charging and discharging kit or may opt for a 5,000 CNY (2,550 AED) credit toward other options.

Sporty Performance and Advanced Autonomous Driving Tech

The upgraded ES6 and EC6 models deliver a dynamic driving experience, powered by dual electric motors that allow the vehicles to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 and 4.4 seconds, respectively. The previously vertical screens have been replaced with horizontal AMOLED displays, similar to those in the Nio ET9 executive sedan, enhancing the cabin’s luxury appeal.

Both models are equipped with Nio's in house developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip, which offers computational power equivalent to four Nvidia Orin X chips. They run on Nio's proprietary Sky OS vehicle operating system and feature fifteen upgrades to the suspension and control systems, improving both stability and responsiveness on the road.

In a live demonstration, CEO William Li drove an ES6 at 120 km/h (74 mph) during a tire blowout test, where the vehicle maintained its stability, showcasing the effectiveness of its advanced safety systems.

Sales Figures Highlight ES6 and EC6's Role in Nio Strategy

The ES6 emerged as a key driver of Nio's performance in 2024, with 75,433 units delivered. This accounted for 33.98% of Nio Inc.'s total deliveries and 37.49% of sales under the Nio brand. While the EC6 targets a more niche audience, it still made a notable contribution with 27,226 units delivered, representing 12.27% of the company’s annual total.

Between January and April 2025, Nio delivered 65,994 vehicles, marking a 44.49% increase year over year. The ES6 contributed 16,016 units, while the EC6 followed with 6,763 units, confirming continued strong demand for both models.

Nio is also set to expand its lineup with refreshed versions of the ET5 and ET5 Touring, scheduled for launch on May 25. Pre orders for all four updated models, including the ES6 and EC6, began on May 10 as part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle market.
