Suzuki and Toyota, long-time partners, are expanding into the 7-seater SUV market with extended versions of their existing models—the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Foreign media have released concept renderings of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s seven-seat version.
According to reports, Suzuki’s upcoming three-row, seven-seater SUV is being developed under the internal code name “Y17.” Built on the same platform as the Grand Vitara, it will feature an extended length beyond 4,345mm and a wider body to accommodate a third row of seats, making it Suzuki’s new flagship SUV.
The seven-seat Suzuki Grand Vitara is already undergoing testing and is expected to launch later this year.
Its twin, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, is based on Suzuki’s Global C-platform. The new seven-seater version will debut alongside it, with the main differences limited to exterior styling. Both models will be powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with Toyota’s hybrid system.
Preview images of Toyota’s 7-seat SUV hint at design elements inspired by the RAV4. The front features a bold look with thick chrome trim connecting sharp headlamp clusters, a large grille, and integrated lighting elements. With excellent ground clearance, the SUV is expected to offer some off-road capability.
