Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Cross Concept at the 2025 IAA Mobility show in Munich, previewing its upcoming compact electric SUV model set to debut in mid-2026. This vehicle represents Volkswagen’s latest design philosophy called "Pure Positive," which focuses on clarity, authenticity, timelessness, and likeability. It is designed to reflect a friendly new Volkswagen face combined with modern and classic elements.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
The ID. Cross measures 4,161 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, and 1,588 mm in height with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, making it similar in size to the popular Volkswagen T-Cross.
The front fascia features advanced 3D LED lighting elements creating a distinctive and friendly look.
The black C-pillar has three illuminated rectangles paying homage to Volkswagen’s heritage.
The concept rides on 21-inch “Balboa” alloy wheels with 235/40 R21 tires designed in partnership with Goodyear, with tire sidewall patterns continuing the rim design.
Interior Space and Comfort
The interior offers a spacious cabin with a luggage capacity of 450 liters and an additional 25 liters under the front hood (frunk), the largest in the ID family.
Seats fold flat to transform the rear into a reclining lounge space reminiscent of the classic VW Bus.
The cabin features beige cloth upholstery, soft fabric surfaces, and plant motifs integrated both physically in the floating center console and digitally in the interfaces, creating a calming “interior oasis.”
Digital instrumentation includes an 11-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Volkswagen reintroduces physical buttons and rotary controls to complement the touchscreens, enhancing ease of use.
Performance and Powertrain
Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor delivering 155 kW (211 hp) that drives the front wheels.
The battery provides a WLTP-estimated driving range of up to 420 kilometers (261 miles).
The SUV has a top speed of 175 km/h (110 mph).
A tow hitch allows towing up to 1,200 kg and can carry two e-bikes on a bike rack with a 75 kg load capacity.
Charging supports 11 kW AC and fast DC charging, able to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in around 20-25 minutes.
Safety and Assistance Features
Advanced driver assistance system “Travel Assist” provides semi-autonomous driving capabilities, including adaptive cruise control and lane keeping.
Ambient adjustable lighting enhances the in-cabin atmosphere and comfort.
The interior includes thoughtfully designed touches such as pull-up interior door handles and user-friendly control layouts.
