Chinese automaker Leapmotor is making a significant leap in the electric vehicle market with the launch of the updated 2026 version of its C16 SUV. The company has officially started the pre-sale phase for this model, which comes with a range of technical and practical improvements aimed at a broader segment of customers seeking a modern family car that combines advanced performance and cutting-edge technology.

Leapmotor launches updated C16 electric SUV with new seating options, enhanced performance, and competitive pricing for modern families.

New Seating Options to Meet All Needs

One of the most notable updates to the Leapmotor C16 is the addition of a five-seat option, whereas the previous model was limited to a six-seat configuration. This move reflects the company’s response to market demands and customer preferences, especially small families or those who want more cargo space without sacrificing passenger comfort.

Advanced Electric Platform and Strong Performance

The new C16 version is based on a high-voltage 800-volt electric architecture, providing higher charging efficiency and performance. The vehicle is available in two main versions:

  • Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): Offers a driving range of up to 630 kilometers on a single charge, making it ideal for long trips and daily commuting without range anxiety.

  • Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): Combines an electric motor and battery allowing up to 280 kilometers of electric range, with a small internal combustion engine that charges the battery and extends the driving range, offering greater flexibility.

Competitive Trims and Pricing

Leapmotor offers the updated C16 in six trims (three EREV and three BEV), catering to various budgets and needs. Pre-sale prices for the hybrid EREV versions start at 169,800 Chinese yuan (approximately 88,300 AED / 23,600 USD) and go up to 179,800 yuan (about 93,500 AED / 25,000 USD) for higher trims. The BEV versions start at 179,800 yuan (about 93,500 AED / 25,000 USD) and reach 189,800 yuan (about 98,700 AED / 26,400 USD) for the top trims.

It is worth noting that these new prices represent an increase over the previous generation, with the EREV version rising by about 14,000 yuan (8.95%) and the BEV version by about 18,000 yuan (11.12%). Chinese companies often start pre-sales at higher prices and then offer discounts upon official launch to attract more customers.

Practical Design and Spacious Interior

The vehicle measures approximately 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, giving it a strong road presence and a spacious interior suitable for families. The company has also added a small 8.1-liter refrigerator inside the cabin to enhance passenger comfort during travel and long trips.

Continuous Growth in Sales and Performance

Since its initial launch in June 2024, Leapmotor has continued to develop the C16 to meet customer expectations, adding two new longer-range electric versions in January 2025. These efforts are reflected in the company’s increasing sales figures; Leapmotor delivered 45,067 vehicles last May, a 148% year-over-year increase, and a total of 173,658 vehicles from January to May 2025, a 160% year-over-year increase. Specifically, 5,185 units of the C16 were sold in April, with May data not yet available.

A Promising Future in the Electric Vehicle Market

Through the updated C16, Leapmotor aims to strengthen its position in the growing electric vehicle market in China and globally by offering innovative solutions that combine advanced technology, practical design, and competitive pricing. With continued strong sales growth and an expanding customer base, the C16 is expected to become a prominent player among electric family SUVs in the coming years.

In conclusion, Leapmotor’s new C16 confirms the company’s commitment to delivering smart vehicles that meet modern needs, providing customers with a driving experience that combines comfort, performance, and innovation.
