Hyundai has launched its new Ioniq 6 N, a high-performance electric saloon boasting 641 horsepower, featuring innovative technologies such as simulated gear changes and artificial engine sounds to enhance the driving experience. This model follows the success of the Ioniq 5 N, focusing more on sporty performance and dynamic handling, making it a strong contender in the high-performance electric vehicle segment.
Power and Performance
The Ioniq 6 N uses the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive system as the Ioniq 5 N, delivering a base power output of 601 horsepower. With the “N Grin Boost” button, it can temporarily increase power to 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque for 10 seconds, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds. The motors have been upgraded with new magnets to delay performance loss during aggressive driving or track use.
Battery and Thermal Management
The car is equipped with an 84 kWh battery pack capable of fast charging from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes, with an estimated driving range of around 290 miles (467 kilometers) according to Hyundai’s preliminary data. The “N Battery Conditioning” system has been updated to allow drivers to select different battery heating modes depending on driving style: Drag mode for short bursts at 30-40°C, and Endurance mode for sustained performance at 10-20°C.
Driving Technologies and Assistance Systems
The Ioniq 6 N features the “N Drift Optimizer,” which offers customizable settings for launch control, drift angle, and wheel slip, with 10 levels tailored for both beginners and experts. The “N e-Shift” system simulates an eight-speed transmission with illuminated shift indicators to signal gear changes, usable across all driving modes, including Eco mode.
This system works in conjunction with “N Launch Control” and drift mode, delivering thrilling performance with strong drifts at high speeds. The “N Active Sound +” system provides enhanced artificial engine sounds with improved audio quality, allowing drivers to choose between traditional engine noises or futuristic sounds.
Exterior Design and Chassis
The Ioniq 6 N features a more aggressive design compared to the Ioniq 5 N, with a larger front grille equipped with active flaps, a redesigned front splitter, and a wider body with 30 mm fender flares on each side. It also has extended side skirts and lightweight forged 20-inch wheels.
At the rear, the car sports an extended diffuser and a black rear panel with small pixelated lights, along with a large swan-neck rear wing. Buyers can opt for a larger wing from the N performance parts catalog.
Suspension and Brakes
The suspension system has been completely redesigned with reinforced chassis geometry to reduce body roll during sharp cornering. The car uses electronically controlled dampers and stiffer springs. The braking system has been enhanced to increase regenerative braking when the brake pedal is applied.
An electronic limited-slip differential is available on the rear axle, improving stability and cornering performance.
Interior
Inside, the Ioniq 6 N features adjustable sports seats and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with the N logo, complemented by sporty and luxurious touches. The cabin is equipped with advanced infotainment and connectivity technologies, including multiple display screens and smart control systems.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N represents a significant leap in the world of high-performance electric vehicles, combining immense power, cutting-edge technology, and dynamic design. With simulated gear shifts and artificial engine sounds, it offers an exciting and enjoyable driving experience while maintaining battery efficiency and superior track performance. This car confirms Hyundai’s steady progress toward the future of high-performance electric mobility.
