2023 Hongqi H5 Classic in-depth Walkaround
The current Hongqi H5 sedan is not going to be canceled just yet. Instead, it will be rebranded as the Hongqi H5 Classic Edition and will be available for sale alongside the new Hongqi H5. This practice of retaining older car models is quite common in China, as automakers are reluctant to bid farewell to any vehicle. Typically, the older model continues to be offered for approximately 2-3 years before being phased out.
There are three powertrain options for the Hongqi H5 Classic Edition:
A 1.5 turbo engine delivering 169 horsepower and 258 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It boasts a top speed of 215 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, and has a fuel consumption rate of 6.2 liters per 100 km.
A 1.5 turbo hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) with a combined output of 190 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It has a top speed of 180 km/h, achieves the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8 seconds, and offers a fuel consumption rate of 5.1 liters per 100 km.
A 2.0 turbo engine generating 224 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque, matched with an 8-speed automated manual transmission. It can reach a top speed of 230 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and has a fuel consumption rate of 6.4 liters per 100 km.
In terms of pricing, the 1.5 turbo variant starts at 159,800 yuan ($23,628), the 1.5 turbo HEV begins at 199,800 yuan ($29,542), and the 2.0 turbo version has a starting price of 179,800 yuan ($29,542). The black car depicted in the photos represents the 2.0 turbo variant.
