SUVs accounted for 25% of Toyota's sales in the U.S. in the first half of 2024 and are expected to total 500,000 units this year. Toyota officials acknowledge that RAV4's sales figures are similar to those of the Camry. The next generation of Toyota RAV4, set to arrive in 2025, is unlikely to undergo a radical design shift, as it is considered Toyota's best-selling SUV. The company seems to be taking a cautious approach, prioritizing necessary enhancements rather than making drastic changes to maintain the characteristics of this successful vehicle.
In the first half of 2024, the RAV4 accounted for nearly a quarter of Toyota's sales in the U.S., with 248,295 units sold, a 33% increase. If the SUV continues to attract buyers at its current rate, RAV4 sales could reach 500,000 this year, surpassing the peak of 448,071 vehicles in 2019. The pandemic had previously caused significant disruptions in the automotive sector due to supplier shortages. In 2023, the RAV4 was the second best-selling vehicle worldwide, with sales of 1.075 million units.
Cooper Eriksen, head of product planning at Toyota North America, stated, “The RAV4 is a distinctive vehicle, easy in its choices, and well-suited for customers. Its advantages lie in size, storage capacity, performance level, and technology. The current Toyota RAV4 has been on the market since late 2018, so its redesign has been delayed and could arrive as early as 2025.
