- Flexible Options and Smart Pricing
Leapmotor, backed by automotive giant Stellantis, is preparing to unveil an all new full size SUV under its upcoming D-series lineup, with an official launch set for 2026. This ambitious new model marks a strategic leap for the Chinese automaker into the premium family electric SUV segment. As the brand’s first three row vehicle, it promises a spacious interior, a contemporary design, and a high level of advanced features tailored to meet the needs of modern electric car buyers.
Dynamic Design with a Striking Presence
In its new SUV model, Leapmotor has adopted a design approach that blends a robust, boxy structure with elegant aerodynamic lines, creating a cohesive look that commands attention on the road. At the front, wide spanning LED headlights are connected by a slim light strip, emphasizing a modern visual identity. The front grille features a low profile horizontal layout that adds a refined, sporty touch.
Along the sides, flush door handles enhance aerodynamic efficiency and contribute to the vehicle’s sleek appearance. Large rear windows allow ample natural light into the cabin, improving the sense of space inside. The flat roofline is equipped with integrated roof rails, offering generous headroom in the third row. However, the slim C-pillars might raise questions about the vehicle's side impact durability, pending official safety test results.
Spacious Interior and Advanced Technology
Spy shots of the cabin reveal Leapmotor’s vision of blending comfort with technology. A large, vertically oriented central display stands out, integrated into a carefully sculpted dashboard designed to enhance driver interaction. While some industry observers have suggested adopting a rotating screen similar to offerings from rival brands, the current dashboard layout does not appear to accommodate such a feature at this stage.
The steering wheel features a two spoke design with a wide central area housing multiple multifunction buttons, giving the driver intuitive and precise control over various vehicle functions. Although official details regarding interior materials and equipment remain undisclosed, early expectations point to the use of premium finishes and a suite of entertainment and driver assistance systems tailored to meet the needs of modern drivers seeking a refined and seamless experience.
Flexible Options and Smart Pricing
Leapmotor is set to launch this SUV with two powertrain options: a fully electric version and another equipped with a range extender, offering drivers in the GCC region greater flexibility for daily commuting and long distance travel without range anxiety. Prototype models have revealed a charging port on the left rear side, while the absence of lidar sensors suggests that the company is opting for a camera based intelligent driving system as a cost effective and advanced solution.
In terms of pricing, estimates suggest that the entry level model will start at over 200,000 Chinese yuan (102,298 AED), while fully loaded versions may reach up to 300,000 yuan (153,448 AED). Leapmotor aims to compete with established brands like Li Auto by offering similar size and tech specifications at a more attractive price point.
Alongside this SUV, the company has also announced plans to introduce two additional MPV models based on the same D platform in the second quarter of 2026, according to Chairman Zhu Jiangming. This move underlines Leapmotor’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the electric family vehicle segment within Gulf markets.
With the official launch approaching, anticipation is growing for a full reveal of the vehicle’s specifications and driving range, with signs pointing to the D SUV becoming a pivotal model in the brand’s expansion across the region.
