Kia has officially unveiled the all-new Syros in India, introducing a new contender in the bustling urban SUV market. The model adopts an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and showcases a modern design language paired with an impressively well-equipped interior, focusing on technology, comfort, and safety. The Syros measures 3995 mm in length, 1800 mm in width, and 1665 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2550 mm. Its length matches that of the Indian-spec Sonet, but other dimensions have slightly increased. The exterior design is boxy, featuring a high ground clearance and heavy plastic cladding that gives the vehicle an SUV-like appearance. The LED headlights are positioned lower than usual, complemented by black accents around the short hood. The designers opted for a grille-less shape, allowing cooling through lower air intakes above the aluminum skid plate. There are also developed wings and a strong pillar reminiscent of Hyundai Casper and Instar. At the rear, the split taillight arrangement includes slender L-shaped LED lights around the rear window and a tailgate similar to minivan models. Inside, the dashboard resembles that of the Kia EV3, featuring a 30-inch digital cockpit made up of two 12.3-inch displays and a 5-inch climate control screen. Noteworthy are the rear seat functions of sliding, reclining, and ventilation, which are offered for the first time in the urban SUV segment, alongside a reasonably spacious boot with a capacity of 465 liters. The features include a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, a four-way power-adjustable driver seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a wireless charging pad, and wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia also mentions a navigation system and numerous connected features, while in terms of safety, the SUV offers six airbags and can be equipped with 16 advanced driver-assistance systems for Level 2 autonomous driving. The Syros is built on the K1 platform, which also supports the Hyundai Exter, Casper, and smaller Instar models. Despite its compact size, the company promises "superior ride quality" thanks to a longer wheelbase and "enhanced suspension." At launch, the Syros will be available with petrol and diesel engine options, with a fully electric version expected to join the lineup in the future. The 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine produces 118 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-liter diesel engine delivers 114 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. In both cases, power is transmitted to the front wheels via a manual or automatic transmission. The Syros is set to launch in the Indian market in early 2025, with Kia starting to accept pre-orders in January and revealing prices in February. Local media indicate that the model will be priced higher than the Sonet, positioning it closer to the larger Seltos. The vehicle will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Skoda Kushaq in India. However, high-spec versions of the Syros will also compete with higher-tier models due to their extensive features. We may also see the Kia Syros in other markets in the future, such as South America or even Europe, where small SUVs are highly popular.
