As part of its forward looking vision for smart mobility, GACToyota, the joint venture between Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation and China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group, unveiled a comprehensive technology roadmap during its 2025 Technology Day event in China. This initiative centers on accelerating development in electric vehicles, software solutions, and digital integration, supported by strategic partnerships with tech giants including Huawei, Xiaomi, and Momenta. Through this approach, Toyota aims to expand its presence in the Chinese market by delivering a smarter, more advanced mobility ecosystem tailored to local consumer needs.

Advanced Hybrid and Electric Platforms Power Toyota's Future in China

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
Toyota has unveiled two newly developed platforms for alternative energy vehicles as part of its vision to strengthen its presence in the sustainable mobility market. The first platform is dedicated entirely to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), optimized for compact and midsize segments. The first model to emerge from this platform is the bZ3X, designed with smart space efficiency and cutting edge technology that elevates the overall driving experience.

The second platform is a flexible architecture that supports three powertrain types: BEV, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and range extended electric vehicles (REEV). It can accommodate models up to 5,300 mm in length. The first vehicle built on this multi energy platform is the bZ7, a premium midsize to large sedan equipped with advanced sensing technologies such as LiDAR. Toyota has announced that the bZ7 is scheduled to launch in March 2026.

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
In parallel, Toyota continues to upgrade its hybrid systems. The company is currently rolling out its fifth generation Intelligent Dual Engine system while actively developing a sixth generation version that will bring even higher levels of efficiency and performance. Additionally, Toyota is preparing to introduce a high performance PHEV system by 2027, which will debut in the Chinese market versions of the Sienna and Highlander. This new system is engineered to deliver stronger acceleration and improved long distance fuel economy, aligning with the expectations of drivers in China’s rapidly evolving automotive landscape.

Smart Integration of Xiaomi and Huawei Systems in Toyota Vehicles

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
Toyota has announced a strategic partnership with Xiaomi, marking the first collaboration of its kind between a global automaker and a Chinese tech giant. This initiative aims to integrate Toyota vehicles with Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem, including tablets and smart speakers, within a unified AIoT environment. The goal is to deliver a seamless digital experience that begins at home and extends into the cabin, particularly with the upcoming bZ7 model.

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
As part of its accelerated digital transformation, Toyota is also working with Huawei to incorporate the HarmonyOS 5.0 system into its vehicles. This setup is powered by a Kirin processor and a 15.6 inch infotainment screen, enhancing compatibility with China’s local apps and digital services while improving in car response speed. In collaboration with Tencent, Toyota, and Huawei are also developing an intelligent voice assistant capable of understanding user behavior and anticipating needs, with plans to evolve it into a fully behavior based interactive control system by 2028.

Responsive Intelligent Driving with Momenta Technology

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
The Toyota bZ3X marks the brand’s first major implementation of the intelligent driving system 6.0 developed by Momenta. This advanced system introduces nearly 50 new features, powered by a cutting edge cognitive perception model. Engineered to interpret complex traffic environments, the system responds fluidly to voice commands and gesture controls, offering a predictive driving experience based on simulation trained data.

Looking ahead, Toyota aims to expand the capabilities of this system to enable real time scenario reconstruction on the road. This would allow for an immersive and responsive in cabin environment where passengers and the vehicle interact seamlessly, enhancing comfort and situational awareness.

In parallel, Toyota is developing a new digital chassis control platform featuring electromagnetic dampers and dual chamber air suspension. This setup improves handling stability by up to 6 percent and reduces braking shock by as much as 50 percent. Together, these enhancements significantly elevate driving comfort and confidence, especially at higher speeds, supporting a smoother and more refined daily commute.

Advanced Electronics and a China Driven R&D Shift

At 2025 Tech Day, Toyota unveiled EV platforms and partnerships with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Momenta to advance AI, smart mobility, and local innovation in China.
Toyota is accelerating its digital transformation through the implementation of an updated electronic architecture known as E/E Architecture. This platform supports the operation of over 300 independent software modules and enables full remote updates via over the air (OTA) technology. The company also unveiled a next generation Battery Management System (BMS) powered by artificial intelligence. This system offers real time thermal monitoring, intelligent diagnostics, and precise lifecycle tracking, supported by new insulation structures that significantly enhance battery safety.

As part of its “China R&D 2.0” initiative, Toyota has transferred the responsibility for designing and developing new models to its engineering teams in China. This includes the next generation Camry, Sienna, and Highlander. This strategic shift marks a departure from the brand’s globally unified design model to a more localized development approach, tailored specifically to the demands and preferences of the Chinese market.

By merging cutting edge technology with localized innovation, Toyota is paving a new path toward the future of smart mobility. The result is a more intelligent driver vehicle interaction and a refined in cabin experience that caters to the expectations of a new generation of tech savvy users.
