After over a year of testing, the camouflaged prototypes are finally ready to unveil the updated version of Porsche's Taycan.

This update marks a mid-cycle refresh for Porsche's first electric vehicle, set to be revealed this spring. All three variants—the sedan, Sport Turismo wagon, and Cross Turismo hatchback—will debut simultaneously, expected to be released as 2025 models in the U.S. The electric Macan compact crossover that was revealed last month will soon hit the market as a 2024 model.

Porsche disclosed last month that final testing for the updated Taycan is underway globally, including locations north of the Arctic Circle in Finland and California’s Death Valley. The prototypes are subjected to temperatures ranging from -42 to 127 degrees F.

Even in extreme conditions, the prototypes must not only maintain driving performance but also endure rigorous testing of their battery charging and thermal management systems.

The refreshed Porsche Taycan will be unveiled this spring, boasting a range exceeding 360 miles.

The prototypes indicate minor styling changes are in store, including updates to the headlights. The headlights now feature the latest matrix LED technology, which Porsche claims delivers a more precise light pattern and double the brightness of the outgoing version.

While Porsche hasn't detailed any mechanical changes for the Taycan, Kevin Giek, the model line's manager, stated that the update's goals can be summed up as “faster, higher, further.” This likely refers to improved track speeds, higher charging rates, and extended driving range per charge. In a real-world test in Southern California, a prototype managed to cover 364 miles on a single charge, while the current EPA range estimates for the Taycan top out at 246 miles.

The updated Taycan will also include a new performance grade at the top, rumored to be named Taycan Turbo GT. This version managed to lap the Nürburgring racetrack in a time of 7:07.55, as announced by Porsche in early January. This time is roughly 18 seconds faster than the lap delivered by a Tesla Model S Plaid equipped with its available Track Package, and only two seconds slower than the Rimac Nevera electric hypercar.

Porsche plans to unveil a video of the Nürburgring lap in mid-March, following the imminent reveal of the updated Taycan.
