In a new move reflecting its ambitions in the electric vehicle market, Chinese automaker Xpeng has unveiled official images and preliminary information about the next generation of its sporty electric sedan, the Xpeng P7. This new version serves as an advanced replacement for the current P7i generation, featuring radical changes in exterior design and significant updates in the powertrain system, enhancing the car’s ability to compete with leading electric models in the Chinese market such as the Xiaomi SU7, BYD Han EV, and IM L6.

Bolder and More Dynamic Exterior Design

The new generation of the Xpeng P7 adopts an entirely new design language, moving away from traditional smooth lines toward sharper and more defined features. The car sports an aggressive front fascia with a wide horizontal light strip, vertical front and rear headlights that give it a striking presence, and a prominent sporty front bumper. The rear bumper also features distinctive design details that emphasize the sporty character.

From the side, the car features a fastback design with a sloping roof and a raised rear inspired by American muscle cars, giving it a muscular and bold look. The design is completed with hidden door handles, floating-style side mirrors, and an electrically adjustable rear spoiler. Customers can choose from multiple exterior colors, including glossy silver and matte purple, with options to customize some exterior details using materials like carbon fiber.

Spacious Cabin and Luxurious Features

Although full details of the interior have not been revealed, images and leaks confirm that Xpeng continues to offer luxurious appointments and advanced technologies, including a large central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and an infotainment system supporting the latest connectivity features. Special editions with wing-style front doors (P7 Wing Edition) are expected, along with additional options for customizing side sills and carbon fiber trims.

Multiple Wheel and Size Options

The new Xpeng P7 offers sporty wheels in 20- and 21-inch sizes, with staggered front and rear tire dimensions to enhance sporty performance and stability. The car’s dimensions have increased, with a length of 5017 mm (129 mm longer than the previous generation), a width of 1970 mm, a height of 1427 mm, and a long wheelbase of 3008 mm, providing greater spaciousness and a more premium presence.

Advanced Electric Powertrain

The car will be available in two drivetrain options:

  • Rear-wheel drive (RWD): Featuring a 270 kW electric motor, with two expected battery variants — one with an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery and another with a ternary lithium (NMC) battery.

  • All-wheel drive (AWD): Equipped with two electric motors — a 167 kW front motor and a 270 kW rear motor — powered by a ternary lithium battery. Final battery capacity and range figures have not been announced yet, but strong performance and acceleration are anticipated.

Fierce Competition in the Chinese Market

With the new P7, Xpeng aims to compete directly with models like the Xiaomi SU7, BYD Han L EV, and IM L6, all of which are advanced electric sedans in a similar price range (approximately $22,000 and above). The company is betting on bold design, smart technologies, and wide customization options to attract young buyers and sports car enthusiasts.

The new Xpeng P7 confirms the company’s direction to strengthen its presence in the mid-to-high-end electric vehicle segment, backed by modern design, advanced powertrains, and luxurious features. With the official launch expected in the third quarter of this year, industry watchers eagerly await how the market will respond to this model, which could redefine competition standards in the sporty electric sedan category in China.
