- MG Cyberster’s Role in the Electric Sports Car Market
MG is preparing to launch an updated version of its electric sports convertible, the Cyberster, for the 2026 model year. This update comes just two years after the vehicle’s initial debut and was officially unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. Sales are set to begin in China on June 30, 2025.
Exterior Design Updates and New Color Options
The 2026 Cyberster retains its distinctive exterior design while introducing new color options, including "Iris Green" and "Andes Gray." The green shade was previously featured on the coupe Cyber GTS model, which joined production earlier this year. MG also announced a special edition called the Cyberster Black Edition, featuring an all-black exterior and glossy alloy wheels that add a sporty and luxurious look.
Interior Enhancements
Inside, MG added two new upholstery color combinations: black with red and gray with white, enhancing the cabin’s luxury and comfort. The car now includes an additional wind deflector to improve passenger comfort when driving with the top down, along with electrically adjustable lumbar support for both the driver and front passenger, boosting comfort on long drives.
New Features and Technology
The 2026 model reportedly offers a larger trunk compared to the previous version, along with new functions such as a “convertible top counter” that displays the status of the soft top, new sound effects, and an improved voice recognition system for easier voice command control.
Performance and Electric Powertrains
The Cyberster is expected to keep its current electric motor options: a single rear-wheel-drive motor producing 335 horsepower (250 kW), and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version with 536 horsepower (400 kW). The car benefits from a new chassis tuning and software updates that enhance battery life and overall efficiency, improving range and driving dynamics.
Currently, battery options include 64 kWh and 77 kWh packs, delivering a range between 501 to 580 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC standard, making it one of the electric sports cars with an impressive range.
Pricing and Availability
MG Cyberster’s current prices in China range from 319,800 to 365,800 yuan (approximately $44,500 to $50,900 USD). The company is expected to announce pricing for the updated model soon. The new features and updates are also anticipated to roll out gradually to international markets, including the UK, later this year.
MG Cyberster’s Role in the Electric Sports Car Market
The MG Cyberster stands out as one of the few electric sports convertibles available, combining British design elegance with advanced Chinese engineering. The 2026 updates strengthen MG’s position in the electric sports car segment by offering new color choices, technological enhancements, and a more comfortable driving experience.
The 2026 MG Cyberster refresh underscores the company’s commitment to delivering a high-performance electric sports car that blends attractive design, advanced technology, and comfort. With a range of interior and exterior improvements, along with important technical upgrades, the Cyberster is poised to be a strong contender in the electric sports convertible market both in China and globally.
