This compact electric car aims to compete in the urban electric vehicle segment, focusing on providing an economical and practical driving experience tailored to daily city commuting needs.
Sporty and Modern Exterior Design
The BYD Dolphin Surf features a sleek and sporty exterior design, including an integrated rear roof spoiler that adds a dynamic touch while improving the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. This contributes to enhanced energy consumption and driving range. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for maneuvering through narrow and crowded city streets, with a width of 1.72 meters, height of 1.59 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.50 meters.
Multiple Battery and Motor Options to Suit Various Needs
The Dolphin Surf is built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0, utilizing the renowned Blade batteries known for their safety and durability. The car offers two battery options: a 30 kWh and a larger 43.2 kWh pack, along with three different variants in terms of power and performance.
The Active variant comes with a 30 kWh battery and a 65 kW motor, delivering a driving range of up to 220 kilometers under the WLTP standard.
The Boost variant uses the same 65 kW motor with the larger 43.2 kWh battery, extending the range to 322 kilometers.
The Comfort variant features a more powerful 115 kW motor paired with the larger battery, achieving a driving range of 310 kilometers.
All versions support fast charging, with the larger battery capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes using DC fast charging at up to 85 kW.
Smart and Comfortable Interior
Inside, the Dolphin Surf offers a smart cabin equipped with a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Voice control is enabled through the command “Hi BYD,” allowing drivers to access functions without distraction. The interior design draws inspiration from BYD’s modern models, featuring futuristic “cyberpunk”-style air vents that add a lively and contemporary feel.
The car provides comfortable sporty seats with electric adjustment and heating, along with spacious rear seating, making it suitable for small families or daily use.
Advanced Safety Features
The BYD Dolphin Surf comes standard with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and intelligent high beam control. It is equipped with six airbags, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and tire pressure monitoring to enhance passenger safety.
More than two-thirds of the car’s body structure is made from high-strength steel, and the e-Platform 3.0 provides a safe, purpose-built electric vehicle architecture.
Economical and Practical Urban Performance
The Dolphin Surf clearly targets urban drivers, focusing on delivering a sufficient driving range for daily commutes with low energy consumption between 12 and 13 kWh per 100 kilometers. It also features an adjustable regenerative braking system, 11 kW onboard charging, and Vehicle-to-Load capability that allows the car’s battery to power external electrical devices up to 3.3 kW.
Smart and Practical Storage Space
Despite its compact size, the Dolphin Surf offers a practical cargo capacity of 308 liters in the trunk, expandable to 1,037 liters with the rear seats folded. Additional storage under the trunk floor provides space suitable for a small suitcase or other items.
Pricing and Availability in the European Market
