Isuzu has showcased its first electric vehicle, based on the D-Max midsize pickup truck.

The electric D-Max prototype will debut on March 27 at the Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand, with a market launch in Europe scheduled for 2025. Additionally, a light hybrid version connected to the traditional diesel engine will be introduced, though it remains uncertain if the hybrid model will go into production.

The electric D-Max is built on the recently improved vehicle platform, replacing the turbo diesel engine with a full drive system powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The front electric motor produces 53 horsepower and 108 Nm of torque, while the rear motor contributes 121 horsepower and 217 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined output of 174 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque. This means the electric truck outperforms the base 1.9-liter diesel engine version.

While the company has not disclosed the driving range of the electric truck, it has confirmed a payload capacity of 1000 kg and a towing capacity of 3500 kg, similar to the current diesel models. The top speed will exceed 130 km/h.

In terms of design, the electric version features a closed grille to enhance aerodynamics and blue accents. The overall structure shares a double cab with the conventional combustion engine version, featuring a new set of six-spoke wheels and “EV Concept” badges.

Isuzu states that the electric D-Max will be launched in “selected markets in Europe such as Norway” in 2025. However, the electric truck will also be available in the UK, Australia, Thailand, and other countries, depending on “market needs” and the maturity of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Alongside the full electric version, Isuzu also showcased the prototype of the D-Max Hi-Lander MHEV. This model is equipped with a 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, with more details to be announced later, including specifications for the mild hybrid truck and future production plans.
